Neck lift: Have the chin tightened
As you age, your skin loses its elasticity. Folds and wrinkles can occur on your neck because the skin begins to sag. You develop a sagging chin or double chin due to excess fat, drooping skin and weakened muscles. While your face still looks radiant, the skin on your neck often reveals your actual age. If this bothers you, then a neck lift or neck correction is the solution. Dr Schiettecatte first discusses your wishes with you and consults with you about the possible treatment. During a neck lift, any fat deposits are sucked away, the underlying muscles are corrected, and excess skin is removed. You can thus have your double chin removed. Request a consultation now.
The consultation and a quotation
Dr Schiettecatte is your treating plastic surgeon in Clinic Veldhoven and CosMed Clinic. Prior to the neck lift, you have a personal intake interview with Dr Schiettecatte to discuss your wishes and the options. Here you discuss together the desired changes and the course of the operation. On the day of the consultation, you also bring along photos of what you like. Dr Schiettecatte will gladly discuss the possibilities with you. Contact us to schedule your no-obligation consultation. After the consultation, you will receive a tailor-made quotation.
The operation: neck lift
Before the start of the procedure, Dr Schiettecatte uses a marker to mark a number of points and incision lines on your neck. Once you are anesthetized, Dr Schiettecatte makes a small incision in front of and behind each ear. Then the skin of your neck is pulled up and fastened with sutures. Excess skin is removed. The wound is sutured with fine thread and medical skin glue. The sutures are removed after one week. Only the sutures behind the ear must be removed; the other sutures will dissolve on their own. Finally, a thick padded bandage is placed around your head..
After the neck lift operation
24 hours after your neck lift (or removal of your double chin), the first bandage is removed and replaced with a pressure bandage that you must wear day and night for one week. After the first week, you only need to wear it at night. This bandage limits the swelling, which always occurs in the face and neck. Cold compresses also limit swelling and the formation of bruises. In the first few months after your neck lift, you may experience reduced feeling in your cheeks. This gradually resolves itself.
Risks and complications from removal of your double chin
As with any operation, swelling and bruising can occur with a neck lift. If you use blood thinners, the risk of this is slightly greater. In a highly rare situation, part of the skin can die off due to insufficient blood circulation. If you smoke, you have a higher risk of this. In the skin around the wound, you may have less feeling in your skin for a while. This recovers over time. Scars are initially red and visible, but gradually fade.
