Is my breast surgery reimbursed by my health insurance?

A breast reduction may be reimbursed by your insurer. We request this for you on the day of the first consultation via a special software program. Other breast operations are not reimbursed.

Does a breast operation hurt?

The operation itself takes place under general anaesthesia, so that you do not feel any pain during the operation. After the anaesthetic fades, you will have tender breasts for one to two weeks. For this you will get pain relief in the form of paracetamol, Ibuprofen, or a similar painkiller.

How long does the result stay nice?

The result of a breast operation is influenced by a number of factors. First, your skin type determines the stability of the result. Sunbathing, smoking and weight loss can also have a negative effect. If you are healthy, do not smoke or do so in moderation, you will have at least five to ten years of enjoyment from your breast operation.

Do I have to lose weight for my breast surgery?

A body mass index (BMI) of under 30 is required for breast surgery. This number represents the ratio between your height and your weight. You calculate your BMI as follows:

BMI = weight in kilograms (in kilos) / (your height x your height (in meters))

Example: Suppose you weigh 65 kilos and are 1.70 meters tall. Your BMI is then:

(65/(1.70 * 1.70) = 22.5

Or use the BMI index on the Voedingscentrum site.

Will I have scars from the operation?

Yes. Dr Schiettecatte will, however, place them wherever possible in a place that is not visible, or make them almost invisible.

How do you determine which breast size best suits my body?

To determine the most beautiful breast size, Dr Schiettecatte looks with you at your own chest and hip circumference. In front of the mirror, you look together at which breast size suits you best. Test prostheses are used for this for a breast augmentation. For a breast reduction, the new size is drawn on your skin. This simulation gives you a good impression in advance of the possible result to be achieved. On the day of the consultation, you also bring along photos of what you like. Dr Schiettecatte will gladly discuss the possibilities with you.

How many cup sizes can my breasts be enlarged/reduced?

For a safe and responsible operation, Dr Schiettecatte will enlarge or reduce your breasts a maximum of two cup sizes. From three cup sizes, the risk of wound problems and infections is considerably greater.

How much does a breast implant weigh?

The weight of a breast prosthesis is 300 cc, which is about 300 grams.

Do enlarged breasts look natural?

Yes and no, that depends on the volume and how the implants are placed.

Do I have to wear a special bra after my breast enlargement?

Yes, during the first six weeks after your operation, you wear a sports bra day and night. This allows the implants to stabilize in your body and not shift.

What kind of material are breast implants made of?

Dr Schiettecatte uses the most modern and reliable breast implants. They are made of silicone cohesive gel. Advantages of this type of implant are that they look, feel and move naturally and cannot leak.

Can an implant move under my skin?

No. You can sometimes feel the edges of the prosthesis.

Can my breast implant start to leak?

No, even should cracks develop in the shell of the implant, the silicone breast cannot leak. However, silicone bleeding is possible (see next question).

What is silicone bleeding?

Silicone bleeding is the phenomenon where your breast implants ‘sweat out’ substances in your body. This does not occur with everyone. It is comparable with catheters or infusions that are placed in a body and can also exude substances.

Can my breast prostheses grow with my own tissue?

The old breast implants that were filled with liquid gel and could leak, could fuse with your body tissue. This is no longer the case with the new breast prostheses.

Can my breasts be enlarged with my own fat instead of with implants?

That is possible. We call that a ‘natural’ or ‘hybrid’ breast enlargement, a ‘breast enlargement with lipofilling’, or ‘composite breast augmentation’. Dr Schiettecatte also performs this type of breast augmentation surgery. For the best result, he places a small, round prosthesis under the skin in addition to your own body fat. This reduces the risk of the fat not staying in place, and your breasts get the best shape. With the fat, wrinkles and ‘dents’ in the chest can be camouflaged, the chest moves more naturally and feels warm.

I would like slimmer buttocks and bigger breasts. Can my buttock fat be used for my breasts?

This is indeed possible in many situations, especially when it concerns the ‘saddle bag’. Also read the answer to the previous question.

Do implants have a maximum stability? Will I ever have to have them replaced?

The implants that Dr Schiettecatte uses can last a lifetime. However, it is advisable to have them checked by a plastic surgeon after eighteen to twenty years.

Breast reduction

What does it cost?

Super happy!

“Years went by before I dared to take this step. I am rather anxious, and thanks to the good care of the assistant and Dr Schiettecatte, I was quickly (for me) at ease. The service before but also afterwards has given me a good feeling. Dr Schiettecatte is a kind and skilled plastic surgeon who was very nice, and my eyes were almost not swollen or blackened…! Super happy! Really recommend him and clinic Veldhoven!”

Very good experience!

“Last Tuesday, I had my breast augmentation done by Dr Schiettecatte with Diane Gabriels. I had a B85 cup, and now I have a nice D cup! I am so happy with it. Dr Schiettecatte is a very kind and relaxed man. Instead of drop-shaped implants, he advised me to take 500 MPP. At first, I thought it would be too big for me, but I trusted that he knows what he is doing. I have not regretted it for a moment since the operation was done! Also the co-assistant and anaesthetist (David in particular) are very nice people. In short, had a very good experience with this clinic!”
